Why would I need a COVID-19 test?

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19 coronavirus, such as:

A new, continuous cough – This is worse than normal cough. If you are coughing a lot more than usual every hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours Fever, Fatigue, Shortness of breath, loss of sense of taste or smell

Or

if you have been in contact with someone who has been infected or if you have recently been in a country with a high incidence of COVID-19, You can take a test to determine if you have been infected.

You may also need COVID-19 PCR test results produced within 48-72 hours before air travel.

How do these home sample collection kits work?

We’ll send the Covid-19 PCR home sample collection kit out to you in the post. You will have to collect the sample and return it in the post-paid envelope provided. The results will be with you in 2-3 days.

How do I do the test?

We will provide you with a full set of instructions detailing how to collect your sample.

How long will it take to get the results?

The results will take 2-3 days once the lab has received it. You will be alerted as soon as the results have been received.

How do I get the results and how will I be notified?

Are these tests legal?

Yes, these tests are completely legal. Abbotts test are approved by PHE and The Doctors Laboratory is accredated by UKAS and regulated by CQC.

Will these Coronavirus tests tell me whether I've previously been infected or if I am immune?

COVID-19 Antibody test identifies the body’s response to coronavirus after the onset of infection, so you should choose this test if you wish to check if you have been previously infected. It will tell you whether your immune system has produced antibodies in response to Covid-19.

Are the Coronavirus antibody tests accurate?

Abbotts antibody test has a 100% detection rate if taken 14 days from the initial exposer to the infection. It looks for antibodies from COVID 19 virus. If your result is negative then you have not had the virus or you have not waited at least 14 days post symptoms.

What should I do if tested positive in PCR test?

If your PCR test comes back as positive, you must immediately self-isolate to prevent spreading the virus to others. If you have any health conditions, please Contact NHS 111 – they will provide advice and next steps.
